A note from Liza:

Blessings!

I hope this moment finds you well, happy and free. Here I'll share a little about my background and what inspired me to begin studying yoga, and later become a teacher of this incredible path. May your journey unfold in it's own, unique way, Namaste.

I still remember the dimly lit room on the 4th floor of a very old building in the heart of downtown Brattleboro. I remember our teacher, Pam, sitting on a cushion with her legs perfectly folded into the base of the cushion, and her calm voice guiding us to go inward. I hope I never forget how safe, happy, relieved and inspired I felt in that moment. I was 15 at the time, and I never stopped practicing yoga after that. In collage I brought 1 yoga DVD with me that I did over and over again in my tiny dorm room. Luckily my roommate was very supportive...as this yoga DVD had a lot of empowering talk in it that one could easily get tired of! But I needed it. At the time I felt lost in a world of big dreams, overwhelming expectations and scary truths of a world I thought I knew, even of a self I thought I knew.

I never expected to get so passionately involved in all aspects of yoga, but the more I studied and practiced it, the more I felt it was the most important thing I could do with my time and energy. A month after my collage graduation my mom and I took a 200 hour yoga teacher training together. It took a year to finish. Now I realize that we are never "finished". Yoga is not something we learn, get certified in and then it's over. The journey is continual. For me at least, I am always a student of this Universe, its living creatures, its plants, oceans, desserts, its treasures. I consider yoga to be one of the Universe's many treasures and it is a pure gift to be able to walk it, live it, share it and teach it.

A great teacher once said to me "yoga is not about getting high, it's about being free". When I practice living yoga, on the mat or off, I practice being free, and my deepest goal is to promote that freedom for everyone in my classes. May we be happy and free, and my life be a giving to this happiness and freedom for all. ~ Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu.
